The Bushcraft Journal

The Bushcraft Journal is an online magazine, created by Danny Reid, with writers including Dave Canterbury, Paul Kirtley and the late Mors Kochansk to name but a few. Danny approached me a few years ago with a challenge he was facing with the journal. On the logistical side of the business, time was an issue. With so many people contributing articles of various lengths and styles of photography, every article would take time to produce. The first task of this job was to create a grid system and house style for the magazine in order for it to be produced not just efficiently and on time, but with beauty and impact, and easily read on a tablet or device. The second task was to create an impactful overall look and feel for the magazine. We needed to create a strong identity that would be instantly recognisable, regardless of what the article was about or in what style the photos and writing were produced. This could only be done through consistent presentation, colour palette and typeface choices.
